Design Intervention Final reflection

Process of the revised woman

First example of the woman diagram.

Through this experience I learned a lot. Working collaboratively is something that we are always doing in design. By working with Ian, I learned how to try and narrow down ideas, so what we both had an equal input into the final artifact. I also learned how to take what we learned in that first night and apply all those emotions into our design. I think that is one of the most interesting parts of design, is how to take our emotions and effectively put them into design. Like making an artifact that is centralized and easy so people do not get confused. It was interesting to take this into consideration when framing our prototype. To think about the communication model and how we want the user to decode our message, to feel like was easy.

NA Project 8 Reflection

In this project I learned a lot. One of the most interesting points was to take a printed piece and make it into an interactive piece to give information to other people. One of the first steps I had to look at is what information I wanted the viewer to know. Since we have done readings and explored practicing the model it was important for me to figure how I would display the information and word it so it was clear. The next step was to figure out action script. This was the hardest part because coding is very specific. It actually helped me to see how organized the scripting was. After many hours I finally got it to work so that once you clicked on the button the information would show with the button next to it, and once the user would click for a second time it would go away. I wanted all of the buttons to work the same so that the user would be able to know where the information would be. Through this process I learned how to work with action script, putting music in, and how noticing specific little details were important.

Koenig Final Book

Communication Model

After Garrets demo, I began to get some great ideas on what I would like to do for the button communication model. I would like to make it so when you click on the "button" for example communicator a, it gives a voice over of what the definition, and a button listing examples of what that section is. I am really excited about really learning how to code, and make buttons! The demo was very helpful to understand all the different ways we can make the buttons. Now, it is just brainstorming how to take those base skills and apply them to communicating the communication model.

Project 7 Final Posts

As I said before the audience for this piece was to be geared towards the parents, if they were to see this clip at the end of a video, online or even like the "clip" I did below. Through this experience I learned how to build a short compressed narrative. Examaminting two different thoughts when The parents or child would see this is to have pungent color, and an educational. It was hard to plan out 5 secs, because every little frame counts.
For my longer piece, there was a lot I learned about after effects. Also how to line up two channels, audio and imagery to make sure they work well together. With this piece I would like to continue it and make the other two learning styles come in. With motion it was fun to think of how the transition from image to image was going to be (while making it be timed according to the voice over) and I think it would be a great challenge to see how all three learning strategies would seem.

Logo Animated Reel

When trying to animate my logo, the approach was to do a simple paint splatter, and then the "M" and Montessori would appear.
-My first approach was just to film this, (having the hand enter into the frame, and text appear afterwords) but the problem was to color correct the film to look similar to the final logo. One of the main design concepts was to get the texture of the paint, and have the color palette.
- Here is a reel of my next attempt, I did awhile ago. The problems with this is the actual motion of the hand coming in. As Montessori values their natural approach to the subject, having an image that seems "computerized" or un-natural to how the motion of the hand coming in on the frame would be, does not go with the concept of Montessori

Progress Update

For the second artifact I am proposing to give an informational motion graphic to how the Montessori School System Works. Within using one channel at a time, I would do extended research into how to show different attributes of the school system. So I had 5 weeks of research and had no idea how to start. Going back to the basics I mind- mapped on, what it is I wanted to focus on.
My Targeted audience would be a informational clip with parents who are visiting the school. To give an insight to how they let the child approach the subject, through independent learning.
When discussing with Tyler, he suggested that this would be a "clip" into a bigger piece of what this video can be. Back in my early research, I ran across different styles/channels/ or strategy that a child can learn. Tactile learning was fascinating to me, because it goes hand in hand with what Montessori believes in. This was the direction that I felt was most appropriate.

This was my initial storyboard, however it was not detailed enough and I wanted to pair up the script with different frames

This storyboard; is much more finished. I included transitions, and concepts that are meant to get across.

Here is the imagery that will be used in my final piece. This process reminded me of when we started to sketch out how to draw our icons, I wanted the images to seem similar in stylistic forms, so there would the concept of hand rendering. I will be including color to them as well.

Communication Modes

First Try

Second
Third

To actually get down the different steps into communicating was difficult for me, but just like they say third times a charm. Through this stage early in the project, I wanted to make sure that I understood the different channels/ and how to make them into a visual form

Readings

The Shannon/ Weaver Method
Through the readings I found a lot of helpful information about communications.
Source; sending the message
Transmitter; encoding the message
Channel message; knowing the audience
Receiver; decoding the message, where the message lands
"The clients message or idea is encoded by the designer"
I thought this was an interesting quote from the reading because it describes the function of what a graphic designer does. We interpret the messages and develop a system in which we execute them. As designer's it is our job to reach a technical level of executing the message. We can do this through images, info graphs, typography. Within those technical levels we also can do so by using Rhetoric devices, and the modes of appeal we have learned through other projects. Through learning the about the levels of communication, they discussed how they would compress words, and within design we compress words, and translate them into visual forms.

The Berlo Model;
With the Berlo model it has almost the same complex, but it deals with the audience more. It discusses how the impact of social system culture, and senses can play a factor into how the receiver takes in the message. If the sender channels a message that is unfamiliar to the receiver this can create noise. For example if there is a historical context or symbol that the receiver is not familiar with this would not be a successful message delivered.

Test

Ethos; Referencing where it is made, in Italy. Also saying it is made since 18xx makes a statement that you can trust this product to the best.

Logos; Giving facts of the ingredients and how they will benefit the consumer

Pathos; using an image of a sleeping baby, and the color shown are gentle using the emotion of sleepiness.
